The city of Lowell today, shows evidence of some of the characteristics of a small town on the one hand and qualities of suburban life on the other. Many residents find this ideal. They enjoy the advantages of living less than twenty miles from Grand Rapids, with its large shopping centers and urban activities. The Lowell Public School system is growing and centers many of the comunity activities.
Today Lowell has a thriving suburban business community with a lively arts scene and many downtown boutique stores. The Englehardt Public Library is located near downtown on M-20. The King Flour Mill is located on the river near the dam in Lowell. Lowell has the Lowell Area Arts Council, which puts on local theatre productions and many art exhibits, including the Fallsburg Festival every autumn at nearby picturesque Fallsburg Park.
